A study published in the Journal of the Academic Medical Association in 2017 revealed that of the 2000 adolescent homicides between 2003 and 2016, 150 of these were committed by former boyfriends or girlfriends. 90% of these were female, with an average age of 17. In almost 80 percent of the cases, the male perpetrator was 18 years old or older (1). Thrill killers are individuals who find “intense stimulation and excitement” by causing their victims pain or terror before their deaths. Once their prey is dead, they lose interest and often move onto another victim. These types of kills are typically not sexual and do not result in mutilation, as the power and pleasure come from the pain inflicted (1). Spree killers are those who kill at least three victims in a short period of time, usually close together chronologically, although separated geographically (2). Today’s episode discusses a murderer who falls into both categories.

His delusions caused him to believe that Pantera was stealing his thoughts. Dimebag was a born and bred Texas musician who is still fondly spoken about in the Dallas music scene.

Males primarily carry out mass shootings. Females account for 4% of mass shootings in the US. Overall, women are less likely to commit homicide, period, with 10 to 13 percent of homicides in the US carried out by females. Women are also less likely to use firearms to carry out their homicidal impulses, with only 8 percent of firearm homicides committed by women (1). Today’s focus is on a woman who broke the norms in every way.

In most places, there is no statute of limitation on murder, so charges can be brought against someone regardless of how old the crime was. Thankfully, this allows justice to be served, even when a killer might think they have escaped punishment. That’s central to today’s episode.

Born into extreme wealth (she was a member of the last class of debutantes who were presented to the Queen), she abandoned her life as an Oxford-trained Ph.D. and heiress to join the cause of Irish Republicanism. While on the surface she appears to be the British version of Patricia Hearst, she is anything but. Dugdale ran head-first towards the action, spearheading the first aerial terrorist attack in British history by dropping bombs on a police station. Later, Dugdale was the mastermind and leader of the biggest art theft of her time, when she led a gang into the opulent Russborough House in Ireland to make off with millions in prized paintings, including a work by the mysterious master Johannes Vermeer. Dugdale thus became— to this day—the only woman to pull off a major art heist. The Woman Who Stole Vermeer will examine the likelihood that this was not her only such heist. The US has no ban on the execution of people with mental illnesses. Many states have considered legislation to exclude the mentally ill from execution, but none have taken that step yet. The Supreme Court has stated a defendant’s mental illness “must be taken into consideration as an important reason to spare his or her life.” Those with mental illness cannot necessarily understand their defense, even if they are declared competent to stand trial. Additionally, many death row inmates will waive their appeals and “volunteer” to be put to death. Today, we are discussing a man who was put to death, despite his well-documented mental illness.

A Gun in My Gucci is a true story of two “outsiders” who helped bring down the Chicago Mob — the middle-aged mobster Ken “Tokyo Joe” Eto, and a determined young woman, Elaine Corbitt Smith. In the early 1980s, Joe Eto was the highest-ranking Asian-American mob associate in the country. His nemesis, rookie Elaine Smith was one of a few female Special Agents in the FBI at that time. Only three percent of FBI Agents were women in 1979. Her relentless pursuit of Eto resulted in his detention by the Bureau on interstate gambling charges. Afraid that he would “spill his guts”, Eto’s Mob bosses decided not to gamble on Joe’s ability to remain silent. He had to be eliminated and a “hit” was ordered. Joe Eto would never talk, nevertheless the Mob still tried to kill him. But the “hit” was botched and Tokyo Joe walked away with three bullets in his head. Alive, with his honor intact, he was now released from any loyalty to the mob. He was ready to talk, but only to Special Agent Elaine Smith. Over time, Eto’s testimony released a waterfall of evidence and information which led to arrests, convictions, and long sentences for many of Chicago’s top mobsters. A Gun in My Gucci reveals the special relationship between Joe Eto and his FBI handler Elaine Smith, who went from school teacher to crime-buster. The Springford Family Murders

The murder of parents by their children is called parricide. It accounts for approximately 2% of the homicides in the US, annually. Most of these tend to be committed by males, and typically, it’s a single victim and single offender. However, occasionally, both parents, to include a biological parent and stepparent, are murdered. In the case of multiple offenders, it’s usually adolescent females who have enlisted their boyfriend or friend’s assistance. Adult offenders of both sexes are usually mentally ill, whereas adolescents of both sexes are seeking to gain freedom. Female adolescents have usually been told they cannot date someone. Regardless of the reasons, parricide is shocking and leaves surviving relatives struggling to understand. The victims in today’s episode were wealthy, philanthropic, and the loving parents of two children.

GetVokl: A Discussion w Sarah Turney

I first met Sarah Turney at the True Crime Podcast Festival in 2019. She had just published the first episode of her new podcast called Voices for Justice [Link:https://www.voicesforjusticepodcast.com/] After meeting her, I realized that I wanted to know more, so I started listening to her show and man, did I have questions for her. So, I asked her to come on to my GetVokl stream so that we could talk about her advocacy work and, answer all of my questions. Sarah Turney is a beautiful and thoughtful person, who I hope is able to find justice for her sister.

Voices for Justice is written, produced, and, hosted by Sarah Turney. It features the story of missing teen and Sarah’s sister, Alissa Turney. Alissa went missing from Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 when she was 17 years old. The only person of interest in Alissa’s case is her and Sarah’s father. This podcast gives a never before seen and extremely intimate look into the strange circumstances leading up to Alissa’s disappearance. Sarah will be reviewing 30+ years of video and audio records, 3000 pages of case record from the nearly 20 year police investigation, and current efforts being made to get justice for Alissa.

For most people, when they bury their loved ones, they expect to grieve and for the deceased to rest in peace. Unfortunately, throughout history, and even today, the deceased and their families fall victim to graverobbers, or bodysnatchers. Most people are not aware this gruesome practice still occurs, but in the mid-2000s, thousands of families discovered their loved ones’ corpses had been desecrated.
