An Exorcism

In 2014, Pope Francis and the Vatican formally recognized the International Association of Exorcists, which had 250 exorcists in 250 countries (3). Of course, Protestants also carry out exorcisms, but according to Dr. Andrew Chestnut of Virginia Commonwealth University, the Catholic rites are more formal, whereas Protestant exorcisms are often more theatrical. Protestant exorcists will frequently interview the possessed, to try to determine which demon possesses them (4). Unfortunately, there are dozens of non-sanctioned exorcisms that occur in small, cult-like religions, and some that occur without any church affiliation at all. Many of these rituals leave their victims injured or dead. Sadly, a large number of these victims are children (5).
