True Crime Conversations: Feat Lanie Hobbs, Gillian Pensavalle & Alvin Williams

From the outside, the world of true crime podcasting may seem small. Once you are in it, you realize how expansive, diverse, and deeply personal the landscape really is. In this special conversation, Lanie sits down with two standout creators in the genre: Gillian Pensavalle from True Crime Obsessed and Alvin Williams from Affirmative Murder. The three explore their individual journeys into podcasting, what inspired them, what keeps them going, and how their approaches, audiences, and storytelling styles differ while still sharing a commitment to intentional and ethical true crime storytelling.

You will hear about the importance of community, the influence of personal backgrounds on the way we cover crime, and how authenticity becomes a bridge between creator and listener. Whether you are discovering these creators for the first time or have followed their work for years, this conversation offers a look behind the microphone and into the heart of what motivates us to tell these stories with care.

If you enjoy this episode, check out True Crime Obsessed and Affirmative Murder, and let them know you first heard them on True Crime Cases with Lanie. Your support strengthens the entire true crime community.

The Zoloft Defense

I’M BACK – Thank you so much for hanging in there with me, while I took some time away from the podcast rather unexpectedly. I miss my dad quite a bit, so coming back has been really daunting. If you read this far, thank you again for hanging out until I got it all together to come back to a place I’ve called ‘home’ for the last 10 years. I’m not done with TCCWL [probs will do this into my 70s! lol]

You might remember this phrase from health class: “All medicines are drugs, but not all drugs are medicines.” It was a simple reminder that while there’s nothing wrong with needing medication, even the ones that sound intimidating, we have to be careful about what we take and how much. All medicines are drugs, and all drugs carry risks.

Content Warnings: murder, prescription drug use, familicide, mentions of suicide.
