The Chicago Outfit

🔪 Chicago’s mob legacy—from Big Jim to Al Capone to the Family Secrets trial that exposed 18 murders. One letter brought it all down.

The “mafia” in Chicago has a long and storied history, with origins dating back as far as the late 1800s. It has ties to the island of Sicily, and is also known as “The Outfit” and “La Cosa Nostra,” an Italian phrase apparently meaning “Our Thing”. The Chicago Outfit was born from the murder of James “Big Jim” Colosimo on May 11th, 1920.
