Digital forensics is an integral part of crime scene investigations. Its study includes any information that is stored in binary form – smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and more digital devices can all contain useful information for a criminal investigation. Clearly, digital forensics has come a long way from back in the eighties, when police didn’t know how to handle computers, let alone the data stored on them… but it had to learn how to walk before it could run.
